Aerostar Aircraft Corporation Airplanes
Requires repetitively inspecting the elevator and aileron balance tubes for corrosion and rust and replacing the tube.
The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for all Aerostar Aircraft Corporation (Aerostar) Model PA-60-601P (Aerostar 601P), PA-60-602P (Aerostar 602P), and PA-60-700P (Aerostar 700P) airplanes. This AD was prompted by reports of corrosion on the elevator and aileron balance tubes. This AD requires repetitively inspecting the elevator and aileron balance tubes for corrosion and rust and replacing the tube. The FAA is issuing this AD to address the unsafe condition on these products.

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for all Aerostar Aircraft Corporation (Aerostar) Models PA-60-600, PA-60-601, PA-60-601P, PA-60-602P, and PA-60-700P airplanes that incorporate supplemental type certificate (STC) SA1608NM (Machen Inc. Kit No. 76-1 Auxiliary Fuel Tank). This AD requires you to repetitively inspect all auxiliary fuel transfer pumps for leaks, seeping, or any sign of staining. This AD also requires you to replace any pump found with leaks, seeping, and any sign of staining. This AD is the result of reports of fuel leaking from the fuel transfer pumps installed below the auxiliary fuel tank. We are issuing this AD to detect and correct leaks in the auxiliary fuel transfer pumps, which could result in fire or explosion in the cargo/passenger compartment. Such a condition could result in loss of the airplane.

This amendment adopts a new airworthiness directive (AD) that applies to certain Aerostar Aircraft Corporation (Aerostar) Models PA- 60-601 (Aerostar 601), PA-60-601P (Aerostar 601P), PA-60-602P (Aerostar 602P), and PA-60-700P (Aerostar 700P). This AD requires you to replace Roto-Master and Rajay scavenge pumps with improved design Aerostar scavenge pumps. This AD is the result of failures of the existing Roto- Master and Rajay scavenge pumps found during regular maintenance inspections. The actions specified by this AD are intended to prevent in-flight failure of the oil scavenge pumps, which could result in loss of engine oil and possible loss of engine power.

This amendment adopts a new airworthiness directive (AD) that applies to certain Aerostar Aircraft Corporation (Aerostar) Models PA- 60-600, PA-60-601, PA-60-601P, PA-60-602P, and PA-60-700P airplanes. This AD requires you to replace both of the existing main landing gear lower side brace assemblies with parts of improved design. This AD is the result of several reports of cracking of the main landing gear lower side brace at the upper bolt lug discovered on preflight inspection. The actions specified by this AD are intended to correct damage or cracks in the main landing gear lower side brace at the upper bolt lug where the upper and lower side braces connect. This could result in failure of the main landing gear lower side brace. Such failure could lead to loss of control of the airplane.

Airworthiness Directives; Aerostar Aircraft Corporation PA-60-600 and PA-60-700 Series Airplanes
This amendment adopts a new airworthiness directive (AD) that applies to all Aerostar Aircraft Corporation (Aerostar) PA-60-600 and PA-60-700 series airplanes. This AD requires repetitively inspecting the forward face of each wing's 55-percent upper spar cap for cracks above the main landing gear fitting in the top of the wheel well, and replacing or repairing any cracked upper spar cap. Reports of spanwise cracks in the area above the main landing gear attachment on two of the affected airplanes prompted this action. The actions specified by this AD are intended to detect and correct fatigue cracking of the wing upper spar cap, which could result in structural failure of the wing spar to the point of failure with consequent loss of control of the airplane.

This amendment adopts a new airworthiness directive (AD) that applies to Aerostar Aircraft Corporation Models PA-60-600, PA-60-601, PA-60-601P, PA-60-602P, and PA-60-700P airplanes. This action requires revising the FAA-approved Airplane Flight Manual (AFM) to specify procedures that would prohibit flight in severe icing conditions (as determined by certain visual cues), limit or prohibit the use of various flight control devices while in severe icing conditions, and provide the flight crew with recognition cues for, and procedures for exiting from, severe icing conditions. This AD is prompted by the results of a review of the requirements for certification of these airplanes in icing conditions, new information on the icing environment, and icing data provided currently to the flight crew. The actions specified by this AD are intended to minimize the potential hazards associated with operating these airplanes in severe icing conditions by providing more clearly defined procedures and limitations associated with such conditions.

Requires repetitively inspecting the fuselage horizontal stabilizer attach fittings for cracks, and replacing any cracked fuselage horizontal stabilizer attach fitting.
This amendment adopts a new airworthiness directive (AD) that applies to certain Aerostar Aircraft Corporation (Aerostar) PA-60-600 series airplanes. This action requires repetitively inspecting the fuselage horizontal stabilizer attach fittings for cracks, and replacing any cracked fuselage horizontal stabilizer attach fitting. A report of several cracks found on the forward horizontal stabilizer attach spar fitting on an Aerostar Model PA-60-601P airplane prompted this action. The actions specified by this AD are intended to prevent undetected cracked fuselage horizontal attach fittings, which could result in the fuselage horizontal stabilizer separating from the airplane while in flight with subsequent loss of control of the airplane.
