Airworthiness Directives; ROLLADEN-SCHNEIDER Flugzeugbau GmbH Model LS6 Gliders

We are rescinding an existing airworthiness directive (AD) for the products listed above. The existing AD resulted from mandatory continuing airworthiness information (MCAI) issued by an aviation authority of another country to identify and correct an unsafe condition on an aviation product. The MCAI describes the unsafe condition as:

Airworthiness Directives; Rolladen Schneider Flugzeugbau GmbH Models LS 3, LS 4, and LS 6c Sailplanes

This amendment adopts a new airworthiness directive (AD) that applies to all Rolladen Schneider Flugzeugbau GmbH (Rolladen Schneider) Models LS 3, LS 4, and LS 6c sailplanes. This AD requires you to inspect the airbrake levers in the wing for lower end corrosion and for play in flight direction when fully extended and retracting under load; replace the bearings if there is jamming under load or if corrosion is found; and adjust the lower lever member (only for the Model LS 3). This AD is the result of mandatory continuing airworthiness information (MCAI) issued by the airworthiness authority for Germany. The actions specified by this AD are intended to detect and correct corrosion damage to the airbrake levers and bearings caused by collection of water in the airbrake boxes, not detected during postflight checks. This condition could result in the airbrakes locking in the extended position and a consequent off-field or short landing.

Rolladen Schneider Flugzeugbau GmbH Models LS 4 and LS 4a Sailplanes

Requires you to inspect the airbrake system for damage and proper rigging, with correction, repair, or replacement, as necessary.

Airworthiness Directives; Rolladen Schneider Flugzeugbau GmbH Models LS 4 and LS 4a Sailplanes

This amendment adopts a new airworthiness directive (AD) that applies to certain Rolladen Schneider Flugzeugbau GmbH (Rolladen Schneider) Models LS 4 and LS 4a sailplanes. This AD requires you to inspect the airbrake system for damage and proper rigging, with correction, repair, or replacement, as necessary. This AD also requires you to report any damage found to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This AD is the result of mandatory continuing airworthiness information (MCAI) issued by the airworthiness authority for Germany. The actions specified by this AD are intended to detect and correct damage to the airbrake locking bracket caused by asymmetric loads. This condition could result in the pilot's inability to operate the airbrake controls, with consequent loss of sailplane control.

Airworthiness Directives; Rolladen Schneider Flugzeugbau GmbH Model LS6-c Sailplanes

This amendment adopts a new airworthiness directive (AD) that applies to certain Rolladen Schneider Flugzeugbau GmbH (Rolladen Schneider) Model LS6-c sailplanes. This AD requires that you accomplish the following: --install a deflector on the cockpit instrument panel for sailplanes equipped with an instrument panel that is 40 centimeters (15.75 inches) wide; --inspect the canopy emergency jettison system on all sailplanes; and --adjust the system, as necessary, for all sailplanes, including installing a deflector for sailplanes equipped with an instrument panel that is not 40 centimeters (15.75 inches) wide if proper clearance is not met. This AD is the result of mandatory continuing airworthiness information (MCAI) issued by the airworthiness authority for Germany. The actions specified by this AD are intended to assure that the instrument panel does not jam against the canopy frame of the emergency jettison system. This could restrict the pilot's ability to safely exit the sailplane.

Rolladen Schneider Flugzeugbau GmbH Models LS 3-A, LS 4, and LS 4a Sailplanes

This AD is the result of mandatory continuing airworthiness information (MCAI) issued by the airworthiness authority for Germany. The actions specified by this AD are intended to detect and correct loose forward elevator mounting brackets, which could result in these brackets separating from the sailplane with consequent loss of control of the sailplane.
