The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for certain Cirrus Design Corporation (Cirrus) Model SR20, SR22, and SR22T airplanes. This AD was prompted by a report of failure of the upper power lever. This AD was prompted by reports of partial loss of engine power due to a dislodged rubber gasket/seal being ingested into the turbocharger. This AD requires inspection and modification of the air box flange welds and slots and installation of induction system air box seals as applicable. We are adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for certain Cirrus Design Corporation Model SR22 airplanes equipped with an anti- ice system approved for flight into known icing. This AD requires you to inspect the compression fittings on the anti-ice fluid distribution lines for proper installation and repair any fittings that were not properly installed. This AD results from the manufacturer finding some anti-ice fluid distribution lines where the compression fittings were not properly installed. We are issuing this AD to detect and correct anti-ice fluid distribution lines with improperly installed compression fittings, which could result in anti-ice fluid distribution line separation. A line separation could result in a total loss of ice protection fluid supply to the protected surfaces, which would allow ice to build on the airplane and degrade the handling qualities and performance.

We are adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for certain Cirrus Design Corporation (CDC) Models SR20 and SR22 airplanes. This AD requires you to replace the cabin door rod ends with new parts including a redesigned non-binding hinge pin that replaces the existing pin at the upper door hinge. The rod ends, a component of the door hinges, may fail and result in a door separation from the airplane while in flight. The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for certain Cirrus Design Corporation (Cirrus) Model SR22 airplanes. This AD requires you to install a drain hole in the left and right outboard wing tips. This AD results from reports of pilots' inability to move the aileron control without using excessive force when flying in freezing conditions. Moisture from a prior rain shower entered through a gap at the interface of the left and right outboard wing tips and wing structure. The moisture traveled along the aft wing shear web, accumulated below the aileron control pulley, and froze at an altitude with an outside air temperature below freezing. When this moisture is exposed to freezing conditions, operation of the aileron control pulley is impaired. We are issuing this AD to prevent moisture from accumulating along the wing shear web where it may freeze in certain conditions. This condition could result in operational failure of the aileron control pulley, which could lead to loss of control.

This AD requires you to replace the pick-up collar support and nylon screws, of the Cirrus Airplane Parachute System (CAPS), with a new design pick-up collar support and custom tension screws. This AD results from a CDC report of an in-flight CAPS activation where the parachute failed to successfully deploy. We are issuing this AD to correct pick-up collar support fasteners of the CAPS, which could result in the premature separation of the collar. This condition, if not corrected, could result in the parachute failing to successfully deploy (CAPS failure).

The FAA adopts a new airworthiness directive (AD) for certain Cirrus Design Corporation (CDC) Models SR20 and SR22 airplanes. This AD requires you to check the maintenance records to determine whether the brake caliper piston O-ring seals were replaced at the last annual or 100-hour inspection. If the O-rings were not replaced, this AD requires you to replace the O-ring seals with new seals or replace brake calipers. This AD also requires you to modify the main landing gear wheel fairings to add temperature indicator sticker inspection holes, trim the wheel fairings to prevent them from holding fluids, install temperature indicator stickers on the brake calipers, and insert Revision A6 (with revised preflight walk-around, a limitation on the engine speed used to taxi, and brake inspection/servicing intervals) into the Pilot's Operating Handbook (POH). This AD results from several reports of airplanes experiencing brake fires and two airplanes losing directional control. We are issuing this AD to detect, correct, and prevent overheating damage to the brake caliper piston O-ring seals, which could result in leakage of brake hydraulic fluid. Consequently, this could lead to the loss of braking with loss of airplane directional control or brake fire.

We are adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) that supersedes AD 2005-17-19, which applies to certain Cirrus Design Corporation (CDC) Models SR20 and SR22 airplanes. AD 2005-17-19 currently requires you to measure and adjust the crew seat break-over bolts and to replace the crew seat recline locks on both crew seats. Since we issued AD 2005-17-19, CDC developed new crew seat break-over pins to replace the old crew seat break-over bolts. Consequently, this AD retains the action from AD 2005-17-19 of replacing the crew seat recline locks on both seats and adds the action of replacing the crew seat break-over bolts with the new crew seat break-over pins on both seats. We are issuing this AD to prevent the crew seats from folding forward during emergency landing dynamic loads with consequent occupant injury.

This AD requires you to inspect the fuel line and wire bundles for any chafing damage; replace any damaged fuel line and repair any damaged wires or sheathing of the wire harness if any chafing damage is found; and install (to prevent any chafing damage to the fuel line and wire bundles) the forward loop clamp, fuel line shield, aft loop clamp, and anti-chafe tubing. This AD results from reports of fuel line leaks resulting from wire chafing on the fuel lines. We are issuing this AD to detect, correct, and prevent damage to the fuel line and wire bundles, which could result in fuel leaks. This failure could lead to unsafe fuel vapor within the cockpit and possible fire.

Airworthiness Directives; Cirrus Design Corporation Models SR20 and SR22 Airplanes

This amendment adopts a new airworthiness directive (AD) that applies to certain Cirrus Design Corporation (Cirrus) Models SR20 and SR22 airplanes. This AD requires you to incorporate temporary operating limitations into the Limitation Section of the airplane flight manual (AFM) for certain affected airplanes and install a cable clamp external to the cone adapter on the Cirrus Aircraft Parachute System (CAPS) activation cable for all affected airplanes. The operating limitations will reduce the need to use the CAPS system in a loss of aircraft control emergency situation. The installation will prevent the cable housing from going into the rocket cone and will allow the rocket to fire correctly. This AD is the result of a report from the manufacturer that certain CAPS may not activate in an emergency situation. The actions specified by this AD are intended to initially limit the chance of failure of the CAPS activation system in an emergency situation and eventually eliminate this potential failure. Failure of this system would result in occupant injury and/or loss of life and loss of aircraft.

This amendment supersedes Airworthiness Directive (AD) 2002- 05-05, which currently applies to certain Cirrus Design Corporation (Cirrus) Models SR20 and SR22 airplanes. AD 2002-05-05 currently requires you to incorporate temporary operating limitations into the Limitation Section of the airplane flight manual (AFM) for certain affected airplanes and install a cable clamp external to the cone adapter on the Cirrus Airplane Parachute System (CAPS) activation cable for all affected airplanes. AD 2002-05-05 resulted from a report from the manufacturer that certain CAPS may not activate in an emergency situation. This AD is the result of the manufacturer redesigning the CAPS activation system. This AD requires you to modify the CAPS activation system. The actions specified by this AD are intended to prevent failure of the CAPS activation system in an emergency situation. Failure of this system could result in occupant injury and/ or loss of life and loss of aircraft.

The actions specified by this AD are intended to prevent loss of the self-locking retaining nut on the roll and yaw trim cartridges during flight, which could result in jamming of the corresponding flight control system. Such jamming could lead to loss of control of the airplane.

This amendment adopts a new airworthiness directive (AD) that applies to certain Cirrus Design Corporation (CDC) Models SR20 and SR22 airplanes. This AD requires you to inspect one time for understrength rivets on the elevator torque tube and rudder hinge and replace any understrength rivets. This AD is the result of CDC notifying FAA that understrength rivets were mixed in production supplies. The actions specified by this AD are intended to detect and replace understrength rivets in the elevator and rudder, which could result in failure of the control surfaces. Such failure could lead to a loss of control of the airplane in flight.
