The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for all Stemme GmbH (Stemme) Model Stemme S 12 gliders. This AD was prompted by reports of fuel leaking around certain copper sealing rings within the fuel system. This AD requires repetitive visual checks of the fuel system for fuel leakage, and replacement of the affected copper sealing ring. This AD also prohibits the installation of affected parts. The FAA is issuing this AD to address the unsafe condition on these products.

Airworthiness Directives; Stemme GmbH Gliders

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for all Stemme GmbH (Stemme) TSA-M Model S6-RT and Stemme S 12 gliders. This AD was prompted by a report of a leaking electrical fuel transfer pump. This AD requires inspecting affected electrical fuel transfer pumps for certain non-conforming parts, and if found, replacing them with approved parts. This AD also prohibits installation of certain non- conforming parts on affected gliders. The FAA is issuing this AD to address the unsafe condition on these products.

Airworthiness Directives; Stemme AG Gliders

The FAA is superseding Airworthiness Directive (AD) 2022-01-09 for certain Stemme AG Model Stemme S 10-VT and Model Stemme S 12 gliders. AD 2022-01-09 required removing the affected freewheel clutch from service and prohibited the installation of affected parts. Since the FAA issued AD 2022-01-09, the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) superseded its mandatory continuing airworthiness information (MCAI) to amend the definition of an affected part. This AD retains the requirements of AD 2022-01-09 for removing the affected freewheel clutch from service and continues to prohibit the installation of an affected part, and amends the definition of an affected part and clarifies the part installation prohibition. The FAA is issuing this AD to address the unsafe condition on these products.

Airworthiness Directives; Stemme AG (Type Certificate Previously Held by Stemme GmbH & Co. KG) Gliders

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for certain Stemme AG (type certificate previously held by Stemme GmbH & Co. KG) Model Stemme S 12 gliders. This AD was prompted by mandatory continuing airworthiness information (MCAI) issued by the aviation authority of another country to identify and correct an unsafe condition on an aviation product. The MCAI identifies the unsafe condition as a deviation in the construction of the connection of the inner wing to the outer wing, resulting in a wrong positioning of the glass-fiber reinforced plastic (GFRP) blocks. This AD requires inspecting the left-hand (LH) and right-hand (RH) outer wing spars for correct positioning of the GFRP blocks and, if incorrect positioning is found, repairing of the reinforcement blocks. The FAA is issuing this AD to address the unsafe condition on these products.

This AD requires you to do a one-time inspection of all exhaust bends (each cylinder 1 to 4) in the area of the curvature bend near the cylinder flange, replace any damaged exhaust pipes found, and recondition the heat protection wrapping. This AD results from deformations and cracks found at an exhaust bend during maintenance work. We are issuing this AD to detect and correct cracks in the exhaust pipes. Damaged exhaust pipes could cause exhaust gases to expand into the engine compartment and/or carbon monoxide (CO) to leak into the cockpit section.

This AD requires you to inspect the connection between the aileron push-rod and the connecting shaft to determine if a safety washer is installed. If there is no safety washer installed, this AD requires you to modify the aileron control assembly. This AD results from mandatory continuing airworthiness information (MCAI) issued by the airworthiness authority for Germany. We are issuing this AD to prevent a loose bearing in the aileron control lever, which could result in separation of the aileron control system. Separation of the aileron control system could lead to loss of aileron control.

The FAA adopts a new airworthiness directive (AD) for all Stemme GmbH & Co. Models S10, S10-V, and S10-VT sailplanes. This AD requires you to remove the drive shaft assembly and ship it to the service department of Stemme GmbH & Co. The engine is mounted behind the two side-by-side seats. The engine combined with the carbon fiber drive shaft turn the centrifugally extended propeller. After an initial visual inspection, the service department will perform an operational check to determine whether the drive shaft can be further used or must be replaced. Once corrective action is identified, a drive shaft will be shipped to you for installation. This AD is the result of mandatory continuing airworthiness information (MCAI) issued by the airworthiness authority for Germany. We are issuing this AD to detect and correct incorrectly glued drive shafts, which could result in drive shaft failure. During self-takeoff or critical periods of landing, failure of the drive shaft could lead to loss of control of the sailplane.

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for all Stemme GmbH & Co. KG Model STEMME S10-VT sailplanes that incorporate a certain gear box. This AD requires you to incorporate flight restrictions into the Limitations Section of the sailplane flight manual and fabricate and install a placard close to the throttle lever indicating these restrictions. This AD is the result of mandatory continuing airworthiness information (MCAI) issued by the airworthiness authority for Germany. We are issuing this AD to prevent the potential for the lower cog wheel in the gear box to rupture, which could result in loss of power and possible loss of control of the sailplane.

The actions specified by this AD are intended to reduce the potential for a fire to ignite in the engine compartment and to increase the containment of an engine fire in the engine compartment. A fire in the engine compartment could lead to loss of control of the sailplane.

This amendment adopts a new airworthiness directive (AD) that applies to Stemme GmbH & Co. KG (Stemme) Models S10-V and S10-VT sailplanes. This AD supersedes AD 98-15-24, which currently requires replacing the propeller blade suspension forks with parts of improved design on Stemme S10-V sailplanes. This AD requires you to remove the propeller blade suspension forks, exchange them with the manufacturer for improved design forks, and install the improved design propeller blade suspension forks. This AD is the result of analysis that shows that the existing propeller blade suspension forks are currently cracking more rapidly than originally projected. The actions specified by this AD are intended to prevent certain propeller blade suspension forks from cracking, which could result in the loss of a propeller blade during flight with possible lateral imbalance and loss of thrust.

The actions specified by this AD are intended to prevent failure of the flap drive rocker caused by the design of the original part, which could result in loss of lateral control and wing flap control with consequent reduced and/or loss of sailplane control.

This AD requires replacing the O-ring that is installed in the mounting part of the pitot tube (in the propeller dome) with one of improved design. This AD is the result of mandatory continuing airworthiness information (MCAI) issued by the airworthiness authority for Germany. The actions specified by this AD are intended to prevent failure of the pitot tube O-ring caused by an ineffective design, which could result in the pitot tube falling out and the sailplane pilot losing airspeed indications.

This AD requires replacing the fuel filter if it is contaminated, inserting a revision to the Limitations Section of the flight manual, and inspecting the engine valve shafts for brownish- black sticky residue. If a residue is found on the valve shafts, this action will require cleaning the engine. This AD is the result of mandatory continuing airworthiness information (MCAI) issued by the airworthiness authority for Germany. The actions specified by this AD are intended to prevent engine valve malfunction, which could cause engine failure during flight and loss of control of the sailplane.

This AD requires replacing the horizontal stabilizer rear fittings with parts of improved design. This AD is the result of mandatory continuing airworthiness information (MCAI) issued by the airworthiness authority for Germany. The actions specified by this AD are intended to prevent structural failure of the horizontal stabilizer caused by cracked rear fittings, which could result in loss of sailplane controllability.

Airworthiness Directives; Stemme GmbH S10 Gliders

This amendment adopts a new airworthiness directive (AD) that applies to Stemme GmbH (Stemme) S10 gliders. This action requires modifying the rudder control cable system. Rupture of a turnbuckle eye bolt in the rudder control cable system on one of the affected gliders prompted this action. The actions specified by this AD are intended to prevent rudder control cable system failure caused by rupture of the turnbuckle eye bolt, which, if not detected and corrected, could result in loss of rudder control and eventual loss of control of the glider.
