EXTRA Flugzeugbau GmbH Model EA-300S Airplanes

Superseded by 2007-02-11 — see above

Requires you (for all affected airplanes) to inspect the upper longeron at the horizontal stabilizer attachment for cracks using a fluorescent dye check penetrant method, repair any cracks found, and modify the horizontal stabilizer.

Full official abstract

Airworthiness Directives; EXTRA Flugzeugbau GmbH Model EA-300S Airplanes

This amendment adopts a new airworthiness directive (AD) that applies to certain EXTRA Flugzeugbau GmbH (EXTRA) Model EA-300S airplanes. This AD requires you (for all affected airplanes) to inspect the upper longeron at the horizontal stabilizer attachment for cracks using a fluorescent dye check penetrant method, repair any cracks found, and modify the horizontal stabilizer. This AD also requires a limit on operation to the Normal category until accomplishment of the initial inspection and modification on airplanes with less than 200 hours time-in-service (TIS). This AD is the result of reports of fatigue cracks at the horizontal stabilizer attachment on the affected airplanes. The actions specified by this AD are intended to detect and correct cracks in the horizontal stabilizer attachment, which could result in structural failure of the aft fuselage with consequent loss of control of the airplane.

Airworthiness Directives; EXTRA Flugzeugproduktions-und Vertriebs-GmbH Models EA-300, EA-300S, EA-300L, and EA-300/200 Airplanes

We are adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) to supersede AD 2002-21-11, which applies to certain EXTRA Flugzeugbau GmbH (EXTRA) Model EA-300S airplanes. AD 2002-21-11 currently requires you to inspect, using a fluorescent dye check penetrant method, the upper longeron at the horizontal stabilizer attachment for cracks, repair any cracks found, and modify the horizontal stabilizer. That AD also requires a limit on operation to the Normal category until the initial inspection and modification on airplanes with less than 200 hours time-in-service is done. Since we issued AD 2002-21-11, cracks have been found on Models EA-300L and EA-300/200 airplanes. Consequently, this AD adds airplanes to the Applicability section and requires you to inspect and modify the upper longeron at the horizontal stabilizer attachment. This AD results from mandatory continuing airworthiness information (MCAI) issued by the airworthiness authority for Germany. We are issuing this AD to detect, correct, and prevent cracks in the upper longeron at the horizontal stabilizer attachment, which could result in structural failure of the aft fuselage. This failure could lead to loss of control.

Airworthiness Directives; Extra Flugzeugproduktions-und Vertriebs-GmbH Models EA-300, EA-300S, EA-300L, and EA-300/200 Airplanes

The FAA adopts a new airworthiness directive (AD) for certain Extra Flugzeugproduktions-und Vertriebs-GmbH (EXTRA) Models EA-300, EA- 300S, EA-300L, and EA-300/200 airplanes. This AD requires you to seal with firewall sealant the gaps between the bottom fuselage cover (belly fairing) and the firewall and repeat the sealing procedure whenever you install the bottom fuselage cover (belly fairing). This AD results from mandatory continuing airworthiness information (MCAI) issued by the airworthiness authority for Germany. We are issuing this AD to prevent fuel from flowing behind the firewall in the case of a fuel leak. This could result in an in-flight fire, which could cause loss of the airplane and crew.

Airworthiness Directives; EXTRA Flugzeugbau GmbH Model EA-300 and EA-300/S Airplanes

The FAA adopts a new airworthiness directive (AD) to supersede AD 98-03-14, which applies to certain EXTRA Flugzeugbau GmbH (EXTRA) Model EA-300 and EA-300/S airplanes. AD 98-03-14 currently requires you to inspect the upper longeron cutout-bridge for cracks, to repair any cracks found, and to modify this area. This AD retains the actions of AD 98-03-14 and incorporates new service information. For owner/ operators of the affected airplanes that were able to do the modification required in AD 98-03-14, no further action is required. This AD results from mandatory continuing airworthiness information (MCAI) issued by the airworthiness authority for Germany. We are issuing this AD to detect and correct cracks in the upper longeron cutout-bridge, which could cause the upper longeron cutout-bridge to fail resulting in structural damage to the fuselage. This condition could lead to loss of control of the airplane.
