We are superseding an existing airworthiness directive (AD) for Cessna Aircraft Company (Cessna) 150, 152, 170, 172, 175, 177, 180, 182, 185, 188, 190, 195, 206, 207, 210, T303, 336, and 337 series airplanes. That AD currently requires repetitive inspections and replacement of parts, if necessary, of the seat rail and seat rail holes; seat pin engagement; seat rollers, washers, and axle bolts or bushings; wall thickness of roller housing and the tang; and lock pin springs. This new AD requires retaining all of the actions from the previous AD and adding steps to the inspection procedures in the previous AD. This AD was prompted by added steps to the inspection procedures, added revised figures, and clarification of some of the existing steps. We are issuing this AD to prevent seat slippage or the seat roller housing from departing the seat rail, which may consequently cause the pilot/copilot to be unable to reach all the controls. This failure could lead to the pilot/copilot losing control of the airplane.

The FAA is correcting an airworthiness directive (AD) that was published in the Federal Register. That AD applies to the products listed above. In the Information Heading and in the SUMMARY section of the published AD, we incorrectly included Cessna 188 series airplanes. In the Unsafe Condition section, we incorrectly designated that paragraph as (e) instead of (d). Also in the Compliance section, paragraph (f)(2), and in Figure 1, we incorrectly stated the mailing address for the report. We are issuing this document to help eliminate any confusion that this AD may have created in the Information Heading and in the SUMMARY and Unsafe Condition sections. This document corrects those errors. In all other respects, the original document remains the same.

A correction restates part of an AD that was published incorrectly. It is not an additional requirement and it does not change the AD number or its effective date.

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for certain Cessna Aircraft Company (Cessna) 172, 175, 177, 180, 182, 185, 188, 206, 207, 208, 210, 303, 336, and 337 series airplanes. This AD requires you to inspect the alternate static air source selector valve to assure that the part number identification placard does not obstruct the alternate static air source selector valve port. If the part number identification placard obstructs the port, this AD also requires you to remove the placard, assure that the port is unobstructed, and report to the FAA if obstruction is found. This AD results from reports of airplanes found with alternate static air source selector valve port obstruction caused by improper installation of the part number identification placard. The actions specified by this AD are intended to prevent erroneous indications from the altimeter, airspeed, and vertical speed indicators, which could cause the pilot to react to incorrect flight information and possibly result in loss of control.

This amendment supersedes Airworthiness Directive (AD) 75-23- 08 R5, which currently requires repetitively inspecting and replacing or repairing the exhaust system on certain Cessna Aircraft Company (Cessna) 300 and 400 series airplanes. The requirements of this AD replace the inspections and replacements that are required by AD 75-23- 08 R5 with inspections and replacements containing new simplified procedures for all 300 and 400 series airplanes (models affected by the current AD plus additional models). This AD also revises the inspection intervals and requires replacing certain unserviceable parts and removing the exhaust system for a detailed inspection. This AD is the result of numerous incidents and accidents relating to the exhaust systems on Cessna 300 and 400 series airplanes dating from the middle 1970's to the present, including six incidents since issuance of AD 75- 23-08 R5 where exhaust problems were cited. The actions specified by this AD are intended to detect and correct cracks and corrosion in the exhaust system, which could result in exhaust system failure and a possible uncontrollable in-flight fire with pilot and/or passenger injury.

This amendment adopts a new airworthiness directive (AD) that applies to Cessna Aircraft Company Models T303, 310R, T310R, 335, 340A, 402B, 402C, 404, F406, 414, 414A, 421B, 421C, 425, and 441 airplanes. This action requires revising the FAA-approved Airplane Flight Manual (AFM) to specify procedures that would prohibit flight in severe icing conditions (as determined by certain visual cues), limit or prohibit the use of various flight control devices while in severe icing conditions, and provide the flight crew with recognition cues for, and procedures for exiting from, severe icing conditions. The proposed AD is prompted by the results of a review of the requirements for certification of these airplanes in icing conditions, new information on the icing environment, and icing data provided currently to the flight crew. The actions specified by this AD are intended to minimize the potential hazards associated with operating these airplanes in severe icing conditions by providing more clearly defined procedures and limitations associated with such conditions.

Airworthiness Directives; Cessna Aircraft Company Models T303, 402C, 404, 414A, and 421C Airplanes

This amendment supersedes AD 93-05-03, which currently requires repetitively inspecting each fuel inlet float valve in accordance with certain test procedures on Cessna Aircraft Company (Cessna) Models T303, 402C, 404, 414A, and 421C airplanes, and replacing any valve that does not pass this test. The manufacturer has developed fuel inlet float valves of improved design, and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has determined that the improved valves should be installed to reduce the number of repetitive tests currently required by AD 93-05-03. This action requires installing these fuel inlet float valves of improved design. The actions specified by this AD are intended to prevent possible loss of engine power caused by failure of a fuel inlet float valve.
