We are superseding AD 2000-04-01 that applies to certain Cessna Aircraft Company (Cessna) Models 172R, 172S, 182S, 182T, T182T, 206H, and T206H airplanes. AD 2000-04-01 currently requires an inspection of the engine oil pressure switch and, if applicable, replacement of the engine oil pressure switch. This AD increases the applicability of the AD, places a life-limit of 3,000 hours time-in- service on the engine oil pressure switch, and requires replacement when the engine oil pressure switch reaches its life limit. This AD was prompted by new reports of internal failure of the engine oil pressure switch, which could result in complete loss of engine oil with consequent partial or complete loss of engine power or fire. We are issuing this AD to correct the unsafe condition on these products.

We are adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for certain Cessna Aircraft Company Models 172R and 172S airplanes. This AD was prompted by reports of chafing of a new configuration of the fuel return line assembly, which was caused by the fuel return line assembly rubbing against the right steering tube assembly during rudder pedal actuation. This AD requires you to install the forward and aft fuel return line support clamps and brackets; inspect for a minimum clearance between the fuel return line assembly and the steering tube assembly and clearance between the fuel return line assembly and the airplane structure; and, if any damage is found, replace the fuel return line assembly. We are issuing this AD to correct the unsafe condition on these products.

We are superseding an existing airworthiness directive (AD) for certain Cessna Aircraft Company (Cessna) Models 172R and 172S airplanes. That AD currently requires you to inspect the fuel return line assembly for chafing; replace the fuel return line assembly if chafing is found; and inspect the clearance between the fuel return line assembly and both the right steering tube assembly and the airplane structure, adjusting as necessary. Since we issued that AD, we have received a field report of a fuel return line chafing incident on a Cessna Model 172 airplane with a serial number (S/N) that was not included in the AD. This AD retains the actions of the current AD and adds S/Ns to the Applicability section of the AD. Chafing of the fuel return line assembly could lead to fire. This new AD requires the actions of the current AD and adds S/Ns to the Applicability section of the AD. We are issuing this AD to correct the unsafe condition on these products.

We are superseding an existing airworthiness directive (AD) for Cessna Aircraft Company (Cessna) 150, 152, 170, 172, 175, 177, 180, 182, 185, 188, 190, 195, 206, 207, 210, T303, 336, and 337 series airplanes. That AD currently requires repetitive inspections and replacement of parts, if necessary, of the seat rail and seat rail holes; seat pin engagement; seat rollers, washers, and axle bolts or bushings; wall thickness of roller housing and the tang; and lock pin springs. This new AD requires retaining all of the actions from the previous AD and adding steps to the inspection procedures in the previous AD. This AD was prompted by added steps to the inspection procedures, added revised figures, and clarification of some of the existing steps. We are issuing this AD to prevent seat slippage or the seat roller housing from departing the seat rail, which may consequently cause the pilot/copilot to be unable to reach all the controls. This failure could lead to the pilot/copilot losing control of the airplane.

In the Information Heading and in the SUMMARY section of the published AD, we incorrectly included Cessna 188 series airplanes. In the Unsafe Condition section, we incorrectly designated that paragraph as (e) instead of (d). Also in the Compliance section, paragraph (f)(2), and in Figure 1, we incorrectly stated the mailing address for the report. We are issuing this document to help eliminate any confusion that this AD may have created in the Information Heading and in the SUMMARY and Unsafe Condition sections. This AD requires you to replace the pick-up collar support and nylon screws for the BRS-172 and BRS-182 Parachute System. This AD results from notification by Ballistic Recovery Systems, Inc. (BRS) that the pick-up collar assembly may prematurely move off the launch tube and adversely affect rocket trajectory during deployment. We are issuing this AD to prevent premature separation of the collar, which could result in the parachute failing to successfully deploy.

AD 2006-17-04 currently requires you to inspect the two end fittings on each of the flexible fuel hoses located in the engine compartment for the correct torque values, and, if any incorrect torque values are found during the inspection, tighten the hose end fittings to the correct torque values. This AD results from four reports of loose fuel lines connected to the fuel servo or fuel flow transducer. Two reports were of in-flight engine failure on a Model T182T airplane. A third report was of in-flight engine failure on a Model 206H airplane. A fourth report was of a Model 172S airplane losing engine power on final approach. Consequently, this AD would require you to establish the correct torque values of the end fittings on fuel hoses for certain Cessna Models 172R, 172S, 182T, T182T, 206H, and T206H airplanes. This AD clarifies that the torque values need to be physically established and visual inspection only is not sufficient. We are issuing this AD to detect and correct potential loss of fuel flow, which may result in partial or complete loss of engine power and/or uncontrolled engine compartment fire due to fuel leakage forward of the firewall.

This AD requires you to install Modification Kit MK172-25-10C or a steel lock rod/bar on both crew seat back cylinder lock assemblies. If a steel lock rod/bar has already been installed on the crew seat back cylinder lock assembly, no further action is required. If you have already installed Modification Kit MK172-25-10A or MK172-25-10B, this AD requires you to do an installation inspection and correct any discrepancies found. This AD results from reports of the crew seat back cylinder lock assembly failing at the aft end and other cylinder lock assemblies found cracked. We are issuing this AD to prevent the crew seat back cylinder lock assembly from bending, cracking, or failing. This failure could cause uncontrolled movement of the seat back, resulting in possible backward collapse during flight. Backward collapse of either crew seat back could result in an abrupt pitch-up if the affected crew member continues to hold on to the control yoke during this failure and could cause difficulty in exiting the airplane from an aft passenger seat after landing.

This AD results from several reports of circuit breakers that are not the correct 40-amp circuit breaker installed in the MC01-3A main electrical power junction box. We are issuing this AD to replace any incorrect circuit breaker installed in the MC01-3A I.C. 9 or MC01-3A I.C. 10 main electrical power junction box, which could result in premature tripping of the power junction box main feeder circuit breakers and could lead to partial or complete loss of all electrical power on the airplane. This condition could lead to the loss of all navigation and communication equipment and lighting in the cockpit.

This AD is the result of flight control system problems found on airplanes within Cessna's control that could also exist on airplanes produced and delivered within a certain time period. We inadvertently duplicated affected airplane serial numbers and included a serial number that should not be affected by this AD in the applicability section. This action corrects the applicability section of AD 2003-24-13, Amendment 39-13382.

This amendment supersedes Airworthiness Directive (AD) 80-04- 08, which requires inspecting (one-time) the fuel line and map light switch in the left hand forward door post for chafing or arcing on certain Cessna Aircraft Company (Cessna) Model 172N, R172K, F172N, and FR172K airplanes and repairing any damage found. AD 80-04-08 also requires providing at least a 0.50-inch clearance between the map light switch and the fuel line; and installing a switch cover (insulator) over the map light switch. This AD requires you to extend the inspections and installation of the switch cover requirement to certain 172N, 172P, R172K, 172RG, F172N, F172P, FR172J, and FR172K series airplanes. This AD also requires replacement of the fuel line, if damaged; and makes the switch cover inspection and replacement repetitive. This AD is the result of FAA receiving several reports of incidents of electrical shorts on Cessna Model 172N airplanes. The actions specified by this AD are intended to detect and correct any chafing between the map light switch and the bordering fuel line, which could result in a fuel leak and an in-flight fire.

If positive clearance is not found, this AD requires replacing the control yoke pivot bolt, inspecting the adjacent aileron control cables for damage, and replacing any damaged aileron control cable. This AD is the result of the manufacturer supplying incorrect length control yoke pivot bolts in Cessna Modification Kits MK 172-27-01 that were shipped from September 21, 1998, through April 18, 1999. The actions specified by this AD are intended to prevent failure of an aileron control cable because of an incorrect length control yoke pivot bolt rubbing on one of these cables, which could result in loss of aileron control with loss of directional control of the airplane.

This AD requires checking the clearance between both the gascolator and cowling area and the tailpipe and cowling area, and modifying these areas immediately if any evidence of rubbing at either location is found or modifying the gascolator to cowling area within a certain time period if no evidence of rubbing at either location is found. This AD results from an occurrence of fuel loss on a Cessna Model 172R airplane, which was severe enough to force an emergency landing. Investigation of the occurrence reveals that the cowling knocked the gascolator drain valve off the gascolator. The actions specified by this AD are intended to prevent the cowling from rubbing against the gascolator drain valve or the tailpipe, which could result in fuel loss and engine stoppage.

Airworthiness Directives; Brackett Aircraft Company, Inc. Air Filter Assemblies Installed on Airplanes

This amendment adopts a new airworthiness directive (AD) that applies to airplanes with certain Brackett Aircraft Company, Inc. (Brackett) air filter assemblies that have a neoprene gasket design installed between the carburetor heat box and the air filter frame. This action requires repetitively inspecting (visually) the air filter frame for a loose or deteriorating gasket, and replacing any gasket found loose or deteriorated. An accident report concerning a Cessna Model 172 airplane that experienced engine loss because a six-inch piece of neoprene gasket material was lodged in the carburetor prompted this action. The actions specified by this AD are intended to prevent gasket particles from entering the carburetor because of air filter gasket failure, which could result in partial or complete loss of engine power.

This document makes a correction to Airworthiness Directive (AD) 2004-19-01, which was published in the Federal Register on September 17, 2004 (69 FR 55943), and applies to certain Cessna Aircraft Company (Cessna) 120, 140, 140A, 150, F150, 170, 172, F172, FR172, P172D, 175, 177, 180, 182, 185, A185E, 190, 195, 205, 205A, 206, P206, P206E, TP206A, TU206, TU206E, U206, U206E, 207, T207, 210, T210, 336, 337, and T337 series airplanes. We incorrectly referenced a serial number for the affected Model T337B airplanes in the applicability section as 37-0570. The correct serial number is 337-0570.
