Airworthiness Directives; Piper Aircraft, Inc. Airplanes

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for certain Piper Aircraft, Inc. (Piper) Model PA-46-350P, PA-46-500TP, and PA-46-600TP airplanes. This AD was prompted by a report that a bearing fell out of a control column mount during routine handling prior to installation in an affected airplane and the discovery that a quality escape condition could exist on other airplanes. This AD requires inspecting the left and right control column mounts to determine if a retaining ring is installed. If a retaining ring is not installed, this AD requires inspecting the bearing in the mount block for the presence of retaining compound, and depending on the inspection results, installing a retaining ring and applying retaining compound to the bearing, as applicable. The FAA is issuing this AD to address the unsafe condition on these products.

Airworthiness Directives; Piper Aircraft, Inc. (Type Certificate Previously Held by The New Piper Aircraft, Inc.) Models PA-46-310P, PA-46-350P, and PA-46R-350T Airplanes

We are superseding an existing airworthiness directive (AD) that applies to certain Piper Aircraft, Inc. Models PA-46-310P and PA- 46-350P airplanes that are equipped with a Lewis or Transicoil turbine inlet temperature (T.I.T.) gauge and associated probe. That AD currently requires cleaning, inspecting, and calibrating the T.I.T. system; replacing any T.I.T. system that fails the calibration test; repetitively replacing the T.I.T. probe on certain airplanes; and inserting a copy of the AD into the pilot's operating handbook (POH) for certain airplanes. This new AD retains the actions required by the previous AD (AD 99-15-04 R1), adds certain Model PA-46R-350T airplanes to the Applicability section, expands the applicability to include other T.I.T. systems, and incorporates new service information. This AD was prompted by the manufacturer revising related service information and adding an airplane model to the list of affected airplanes. We are issuing this AD to prevent improper engine operation caused by improperly calibrated T.I.T. indicators or defective T.I.T. probes, which could result in engine damage/failure with consequent loss of control of the airplane.

This document makes a correction to AD 2010-13-07, which was published in the Federal Register on June 23, 2010 (75 FR 35619), and applies to certain Piper Aircraft, Inc. Models PA-32R-301T and PA-46- 350P airplanes. AD 2010-13-07 requires you to replace V-band exhaust couplings, part number (P/N) Lycoming 40D21162-340M or Eaton/Aeroquip 55677-340M with an improved design Eaton/Aeroquip P/N NH1009399-10 or Lycoming P/N 40D23255-340M. In the Summary and Discussion sections of the published AD, we incorrectly stated that the AD requires replacing any spot-welded, V-band exhaust coupling with a riveted, V-band exhaust coupling instead of stating the specific P/N to be replaced. Also, in the Cost of Compliance section, we incorrectly stated that Model PA- 32R-301T airplanes, instead of Model PA-46-350P airplanes, are equipped with two of the affected V-band clamps. We are issuing this document to help eliminate any confusion that this AD may have created.

A correction restates part of an AD that was published incorrectly. It is not an additional requirement and it does not change the AD number or its effective date.

Airworthiness Directives; The New Piper Aircraft, Inc., Models PA-46-310P and PA-46-350P Airplanes

This amendment revises Airworthiness Directive (AD) 99-15-04, which currently requires you to calibrate, inspect, and repair or replace portions of the turbine inlet temperature system on all The New Piper Aircraft, Inc. (New Piper) Models PA-46-310P and PA-46-350P airplanes (different actions for different airplane models). Information reveals that the AD should not apply to airplanes where the factory installed turbine inlet temperature gauge and associated probe have been replaced through supplemental type certificate (STC). This AD retains the actions of AD 99-15-04, and restricts the applicability accordingly. The actions specified by this AD are intended to prevent improper engine operation caused by improperly calibrated turbine inlet temperature indicators or defective turbine inlet temperature probes, which could result in engine damage/failure with consequent loss of control of the airplane.

Airworthiness Directives; The New Piper Aircraft, Inc. Model PA- 46-350P Airplanes

This amendment adopts a new airworthiness directive (AD) that applies to certain The New Piper Aircraft, Inc. (Piper) Model PA-46- 350P airplanes. This AD requires installing reinforcement plates to the wing forward and aft attach fittings. This AD is the result of a report that sheet steel material that is below design strength standards may have been utilized on the wing attach fittings on the Model PA-46-350P airplanes manufactured since January 1995. The actions specified by this AD are intended to prevent structural failure of the wing attach fittings caused by the utilization of substandard material, which could result in the wing separating from the airplane with consequent loss of control.

This amendment adopts a new airworthiness directive (AD) that applies to all The New Piper Aircraft, Inc. (Piper) Models PA-46-310P and PA-46-350P airplanes. This AD requires calibrating the turbine inlet temperature system to assure the accuracy of the existing turbine inlet temperature indicator and wiring for all of the applicable airplanes, and repairing or replacing any turbine inlet temperature system that fails the calibration test. This AD also requires repetitively replacing the turbine inlet temperature probe on the Model PA-46-350P airplanes, and inserting a copy of this AD into the Pilot's Operating Handbook of certain airplanes. This AD is the result of field reports that indicate service accuracy problems with the existing turbine inlet temperature system. The actions specified by this AD are intended to prevent improper engine operation caused by improperly calibrated turbine inlet temperature indicators or defective turbine inlet temperature probes, which could result in engine damage/failure with consequent loss of control of the airplane.

This amendment adopts a new airworthiness directive (AD) that applies to The New Piper Aircraft Corporation Models PA-46-310P and PA- 46-350P airplanes. This action requires revising the FAA-approved Airplane Flight Manual (AFM) to specify procedures that would prohibit flight in severe icing conditions (as determined by certain visual cues), limit or prohibit the use of various flight control devices while in severe icing conditions, and provide the flight crew with recognition cues for, and procedures for exiting from, severe icing conditions. This AD is prompted by the results of a review of the requirements for certification of these airplanes in icing conditions, new information on the icing environment, and icing data provided currently to the flight crew. The actions specified by this AD are intended to prevent minimize the potential hazards associated with operating these airplanes in severe icing conditions by providing more clearly defined procedures and limitations associated with such conditions.
